ECONOMIC MANAGEMENT MODEL OF ELECTRICITY GENERATED FROM BIOMASS IN A PIG FARM REA
Diel,Patrícia Bellé; Casarin,Vanusa A.; Stracke,Marcelo P.; Silva,Deoclécio J. C. da; Santos,Antonio V. Dos; Przyczynski,Renato.
ABSTRACT Faced with the increasing demand for renewable energy, researchers have developed several ways to generate them, such as biogas. Thus, the present study aims to demonstrate the economic viability of electricity generation from biodigesters in a pig farm to contribute to sustainable development by reducing pollution in the environment. Studies focused on biomass derived from pig waste are still scarce. Moreover, one of the motivations of the present study is the fact that Brazil is a major producer and exporter of pig meat, with most of the production taking place in the south and southeast regions. The methodology used is defined as exploratory, descriptive, explanatory, and applied. The scientific procedures were documentary and bibliographic...

Ecotoxicology of Pig Slaughterhouse Waste Using Lactuca sativa L., Raphanus sativus L., and Oryza sativa L. Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Ramires,Maiara Figueiredo; Souza,Eduardo Lorensi de; Fontanive,Daniel Erison; Bianchetto,Renan; Krynski,Ângelo Munaretto; Cezimbra,Júlio Cesar Grasel; Antoniolli,Zaida Inês.
ABSTRACT Pork is the most consumed animal protein around the world. The production levels are significant, which results in the generation of large amounts of slaughter waste. Such waste is often disposed of improperly in agricultural areas, causing environmental imbalance by the contamination of soil and water sources with metals and pathogenic organisms. This study evaluates the phytotoxic effects of pig slaughterhouse waste in natura and after stabilization processes on lettuce (Lactuca sativa Linnaeus, 1753), radish (Raphanus sativus Linnaeus, 1753), and rice (Oryza sativa Linnaeus, 1753), in addition to shoot nutrient contents. To do this, the waste was evaluated through phytotoxicity tests on lettuce, radish, and rice plants in natura (PSWin) as well...

ENERGY POTENTIAL OF BIOGAS FROM PIG FARMS IN THE STATE OF MINAS GERAIS, BRAZIL REA
Sousa,Izabelle de P.; Rosa,André P.; Borges,Alisson C.; Renato,Natália dos S..
ABSTRACT Pig farming stands out as an alternative for decentralized electrical energy production from the use of biogas energy. However, its use is still limited. Thus, this study aimed to estimate and map the biogas production, as well as determine the electric power originated by the use of biogas produced in covered lagoon biodigester from pig farms of different sizes in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The research was based on data provided by the Instituto Mineiro de Agropecuária (IMA). Three forms of electric power were estimated, as follows: (i) total, (ii) current, and (iii) installed. They were estimated from the volume of manure generated at each development stage of the animals. The total electric power corresponded to 31 MW, while the...

Nitrate Pollution Control Policy and Its Impact on Farms' Performance: A Nonparametric Approach AgEcon
Piot-Lepetit, Isabelle; le Moing, Monique.
The purpose of this paper is to develop models with an individual and a collective management of the European Nitrate directive. The objective is to compare productive efficiency of farms under the two regimes. First, we develop a model that explicitly integrate the individual constraint on organic manure spreading. The individual threshold is introduced as a productive right. Then, we develop a framework that allows for modelling exchange of productive rights among producers. The simulation of a management of the spreading constrainst on organic manure at the regional level give an estimate of the potential gains that can be realised by allowing a collective maagement of the European environmental regulation. Models are based on a nonparametric frontier...

Nitrogen fertilization by deep bedding swine production and its effects on dry matter production and accumulation of nutrients by maize REA
Campos,Alessandro T.; Veloso,Alessandro V.; Silva,Enilson B.; Yanagi Júnior,Tadayuki; Mattioli,Matheus C..
The goal of this study was to evaluate the nitrogen fertilization as deep litter for pigs in order to produce biomass and accumulate nutrients by the corn. A deep litter made of rice husk as organic compound, from a commercial pig farm during finishing phase, was used. After three consecutive batches of pigs, the deep litter was subjected to a maturation period of 50 days, and samples of this material were taken for analysis of agronomic value. The experimental design was completely randomized with five replicates. The treatments consisted of doses of 0, 75, 150 and 300mg dm-3 of N of deep litter, as well as an additional treatment with ammonium sulfate, with a dosage of 150mg dm-3 of N. After 45 days, corn plants were harvested in order to evaluate the...

Nocturnal thermal comfort in facilities for growing swines REA
Sarubbi,Juliana; Rossi,Luiz A.; Moura,Daniella J. de; Oliveira,Rafael A. de; Maia,Ana Paula de A.
In most of Brazilian pig farms, the environmental acclimatization systems run manually. For night and early morning periods, this practice isn't appropriate, because, in general, there are not employees available to run these manual systems. This research aimed to compare the bioclimatic profile of two differently constructed facilities to the external environment, considering the period from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. during the spring, in order to show that night and early morning temperatures do not coincides with growing pig's thermoneutral zone. For this reason, acclimatization must be also carried out at these periods. It was analyzed the dry bulb temperature, relative air humidity, temperature-humidity index (THI) and enthalpy data of the sheds and external...

Simulation of the energy performance of maize production integrated to pig farming REA
Perin,Márcio L.; Martins,Gilberto; Bueno,Osmar de C..
The study evaluated the energy performance of pig farming integrated with maize production in mechanized no-tillage system. In this proposed conception of integration, the swine excrement is used as fertilizers in the maize crop. The system was designed involving the activities associated to the pig management and maize production (soil management, cultivation and harvest). A one-year period of analysis was considered, enabling the production of three batches of pigs and two crops of maize. To evaluate the energy performance, three indicators were created: energy efficiency, use of non-renewable resources efficiency and cost of non-renewable energy to produce protein. The energy inputs are composed by the inputs and infrastructure used by the breeding of...

The influence of the season of the year and of dilution on the development of swine manure and wood shaves co-composting REA
Higarashi,Martha M.; Sardá,Luana G.; Oliveira,Paulo A. V..
The objective of this research was to study the influence of factors related to the proper management of pig manure (lower dilution) and the season of the year in the progress of the co-composting of pig manure with wood shavings and in the final quality of the compost resulting from the treatments. In the first experiment, two types of swine manure were used: a diluted one (2% Dry Matter - DM), typical from the management usually used in Brazil, and a more concentrated one (6% DM). The manures were incorporated into the wood shavings (6L:1kg) over the course of four weeks. The development of composting was accompanied by monitoring of temperatures inside the piles and the emission of CO2 and CH4 gases during 65 days, including the period of incorporation....

Welfare and spatial distribution of noise levels in swine nursery AGRIAMBI
Damasceno,Flavio A.; Oliveira,Carlos E. A.; Ferraz,Gabriel A. e S.; Nascimento,João A. C. do; Saraz,Jairo A. O.; Brandão,Leidimar F..
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the welfare and spatial distribution of noise levels in a swine nursery during the first three weeks of animal’s life. The climatic conditions were evaluated through the dry-bulb temperature (Tdb), relative humidity (RH) and black globe temperature and humidity index (BGHI) and allowed us to observe that the heating system influenced the conditions in the environment, and the use of the air conditioning system did not guarantee animal’s comfort conditions. The analysis on the spatial distribution of noise levels was performed using geostatistics and demonstrated the occurrence of spatial variability inside the facilities. The highest frequencies of noise levels were concentrated between 60 and 70 dB, and the...

Zoning of environmental conditions inside a wean-to-finish pig facility REA
Massari,Juliana M.; Moura,Daniella J. de; Curi,Thayla M. R. de C.; Vercellino,Rimena do A.; Medeiros,Brenda B. L..
ABSTRACT Using geostatistics, this study aimed to analyze environmental conditions for wean-to-finish swines at 3 pm, during the most sensitive phases to thermal stress (growth/ finishing and finishing). To this end, dry-bulb temperature, relative humidity, air speed, ammonia and carbon dioxide concentrations were measured at 81 equidistant points within the barn. Descriptive statistics was used to classify attribute variability, generating mean, median, variation coefficient, asymmetry and kurtosis, through the normality of Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS). For that, it was used Minitab 15 software. Moreover, semivariograms were used to assess spatial dependence using the GS+ software, and through Surfer, spatial distribution maps were designed. Dry-bulb...
